Minor Surgery

We do carry out minor surgery here at Home Ground, but only for conditions which need to be dealt with for health reasons . We do NOT undertake any minor surgical procedures for conditions that are purely for cosmetic or aesthetic reasons.

Patients who have noticed suspicious changes in a mole or have developed another worrying skin condition which may possibly need removing should make an appointment with one of the doctors, who will then advise further. If surgical removal is felt to be clinically necessary, this may be done here, or at the hospital.

Skin tags and sebaceous cysts only need removing if they are causing significant pain or discomfort through clothing friction or infection.

Common (viral) warts and verrucae are best treated at home by painting nightly with a proprietary wart paint like Salactol, and filed off with an emery board every 2nd or 3rd day. Persistence is needed: these may take 3 or 4 months to disappear! Freezing (cryotherapy) can be painful, occasionally causes scarring and has a disappointing success rate, especially with verrucae. Patients are advised to consult their community pharmacist who will be able to advise on a range of home treatments.
